The Advanced Sciences and Technologies Division was established in April 2004 to commercialize cutting-edge technologies in the chemicals industry and to foster MC's involvement in growth fields. The Fine Chemicals Unit deals in pharmaceuticals, agrichemicals and fine chemicals used in the electronics industry, as well as intermediates used in each sector. The Life Science Products Unit focuses on safe and reliable sweeteners, natural flavorings and functional food ingredients geared towards health-conscious consumers. The Life Sciences Business Unit aims to create new business models related to biotechnology and life sciences, working across a wide range of business sectors, from medical diagnostics and pharmaceuticals to food products and agricultural and fishery industries. In addition, the Advanced Technologies Commercialization Unit is promoting the commercialization of new technologies, materials and services, with a strong focus on environmental fields, nano-materials, and retail related businesses.
