Hot Mounting Press: Qpress 50

The Qpress 50 hot mounting press available from QATM is a modular machine used in the field of metallography for the quick, concurrent, and independent mounting of various materialographic specimens.

Thanks to its modular nature, the Qpress 50 enables the machine configuration to be adjusted for different sample sizes and throughputs, based on the needs of the customers.

A mold assembly and a control interface are included in the base unit of the hot mounting press.

The Qpress 50 hot mounting press comes in two versions:

Qpress 50-2: This model can be fitted with an additional pressing station (thus up to 2 in total)

Qpress 50-4: This model can be fitted with up to three additional pressing stations (thus up to 4 in total)

It is possible to separate the pressing stations from the base unit and add them later. This enables users to produce samples of up to 2 (Opress 50-2) and 4 (Opress 50-4) different diameters at the same time in a single device, which makes metallographic sample preparation fast and flexible. Users can select the diameter of the pressing station—each with or without chamfer—from 25.2 mm, 30 mm, 1¼″ (~32 mm), 1½″ (~38 mm), 40 mm, and 50 mm.

The hot mounting press is equipped with a built-in dust extractor Dust Guard that prevents the operator from inhaling fine dust released when the mold is filled with mounting material. The control interface of the base unit helps control the external vacuum cleaner.

The smart control software of the hot mounting press can be operated by using a 7″ touch screen and is provided with pre-installed mounting methods and consumables. In addition, it enables storing over 200 user-defined programs for a wide range of metallographic preparation processes.

It is possible to create several user accounts with different access rights to configure user restrictions, adjust mounting parameters, and define maintenance tasks.

Different access levels can be provided to the operator, for example, to edit parameters as well as to define custom maintenance tasks and cooling modes, if necessary. The hot mounting press administrator account can lock parameters separately for each user.

Engineered for fast mounting, the Qpress 50 hot mounting press includes an adjustable pre-heating function that considerably enhances the sample throughput of the machine. The novel design of the mounting cylinder ensures highly precise and energy-efficient temperature control when the preparation process is in progress.

The hot mounting press is equipped with an established one-hand closure system that has been optimized to transport excess mounting material into a built-in dirt-trap upon closing the mold. The suction nozzle can be used to remove the dust while filling.

The upper ram can be easily cleaned by lifting the mold’s closure. The closing unit can be removed without the need for any tools. Integrated sensors make sure that a mounting process can be started only if the mold is closed properly.

The use of high-quality components and the modular design of the powder-coated steel housing make the Qpress 50 hot mounting press a sturdy device with a compact footprint. Multiple configuration options and minimum power consumption guarantee impressive efficiency during metallographic sample preparation.
