Bringing the Lab to the Field: MOBILE-IR II

The Bruker Optics MOBILE-IR II FT-IR Spectrometer is a portable FT-IR spectrometer with full laboratory performance. Even when traveling, users never have to compromise performance or reliability, or spectral quality. The device valiantly withstands challenging situations thanks to its IP65 protection.

MOBILE-IR II Features

Cryogen-free MCT detector (TE-MCT)

Internal high-capacity battery

Rugged design (IP65) and vibration-damping rubber feet

RockSolidTM interferometer (>10 years lifetime)

Super-robust carry-case with wheels (IP67)

Heatable diamond ATR crystal

OPUS TOUCH operating software

Diode laser (lifetime >10 years)

CenterGlowTM source (lifetime >5 years)

MOBILE-IR II Benefits

Protection against dust and water jets

Operates independently from infrastructure and power grid

Lab-grade FT-IR performance without liquid N2

Simple and safe transport of devices and accessories

Long service life by high-quality components

Beginner-friendly software needs only 10 minutes of training

Extended warranties on key optical components

An FT-IR that goes wherever you need it

A TE-MCT means more performance, less measurement time

A thermoelectrically cooled MCT detector provides more spectral power for all kinds of applications. Compared to a DTGS detector, this faster-responding detector cuts measurement time in half while doubling the signal-to-noise ratio at the same time. Another benefit is greater spectral stability, which is highly beneficial for mitigating external influencing variables in a warehouse or construction site.

A heatable ATR crystal gives practicality and flexibility

The MOBILE-IR II’s ATR crystal is always heatable, regardless of whether users choose the regular trough version or the optional ATR crystal on a plane plate. It can be used to evaporate solvents or to conduct temperature-controlled FT-IR experiments.

Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Cloud, USB

Users can determine how to connect to and access the MOBILE-IR II’s data. The device provides whichever connection mode customers require, whether by cable or wireless, from the spectrometer to the PC.

The integrity and safety of the data is non-negotiable

For several use cases, data security and integrity are crucial. As a result, the MOBILE-IR II has all of the conventional networking options, such as cloud connectivity and data transfer to LIMS or MES through MS SQL.

Robust PC, rugged spectrometer, and easy software

A powerful PC is required for a robust spectrometer. The supplied ruggedized tablet is IP65-protected. With a touch tablet PC, measurements can be taken while standing, sitting, or squatting, without the difficulties of using a laptop.

Rock and roll

MOBILE-IR II incorporates the renowned RockSolidTM cube corner interferometer. It has been the gold standard for repeatable FT-IR measurements for more than a decade. Even in challenging work situations, it maintains its steadiness and offers pure lab performance. Itdoes everything in a sleek suitcase that travels with users wherever they go.

Take everything

The robust MOBILE-IR II generally endures harsh environments, but its IP67 carry-case (trolley) protects it from waterjet stream and dust. The accompanying trolley accommodates the spectrometer, its accessories, and the IP65-protected tablet PC. This way, your FT-IR lab can be transported safely - anywhere.

Mobile FT-IR Applications

The MOBILE-IR II was designed for explorers, first responders, harm prevention, law enforcement, and any other vocations that require genuine lab-grade mobile performance to make the world safer.

However, this is merely the first step. Bruker sees a plethora of other areas where a field-ready FT-IR can make a significant difference in enhancing industrial productivity. From raw material quality control through product inspection right on the production line.

Mobile or portable laboratories

MOBILE IR II enables first responders such as firefighters, police, and customs officials to detect harmful or dangerous substances such as explosives in the first instance. Forensics is another application for mobile laboratories when illegal substances must be analyzed during a raid or bust.

Mobile quality control in a warehouse or production line

With such a strong demand for quick turnaround, there is not always time to produce new goods and submit them to the lab. The MOBILE-IR II delivers the lab to the warehouse, boosting the efficiency of quality control in daily operations. It is designed to be used by anyone, including those with little prior experience.

Polymer recycling outside docking area

Plastics are frequently brought in bulk to recycling factories. These plastics can already be detected and sorted by the transport vehicle in the first instance. This saves time in preparing and transporting samples to labs.

Harm prevention on-site at music festivals

The instrument must be robust for when the bass overwhelms the festival. Local NGOs or government agencies use this application to reduce harm by testing illegal substances for highly dangerous toxins, assuring everyone's safety.
