The High Throughput OEM Spectrometer for Raman Spectroscopy

IS-Instruments has launched an ultra high throughput/etendue OEM spectrometer designed for Raman spectroscopy, including stand-off measurements ranging from 2 to 3 m.

This low cost OEM spectrometer provides a 100 fold increase in throughput compared to standard systems currently available on the market. This increased throughput can lead to an excellent SNR for a specified observation over a Czerny Turner instrument.

The instrument contains no moving parts and yet maintains the advantages of a Michelson Interferometer with the spectral properties of a conventional diffraction grating-based device, such as a Czerny Turner spectrometer. This instrument’s high throughput/etendue makes it suitable for low light applications and for use as an OEM spectrometer where it can be easily incorporated with large receiving optics.

ISI provides the spectrometer as a fiberd-coupled Raman spectrometer or a stand-alone instrument, typically with a 500 mW 785 nm laser.

The instrument is available with different detectors as per the requirements of end users, from an ultra low light, cooled CCD to simple CMOS devices.

The configuration of the baseline instrument is targeted at Raman spectroscopy with an excitation laser working at 785 nm and it is given within the table below.

The instrument’s high throughput makes it possible to connect the device through a large multimode optical fiber. This makes the device easy to use together with a large optical telescope, unlike Czerny Turner systems with comparable resolution. Therefore, diffraction limited telescopes are not necessary, which makes the device accessible for even amateur astronomers while providing the advanced performance needed for professional observatories.
