The Extrel QPS – RF only and RF/DC Power Supply for Quadrupoles, Hexapoles and Octupoles

The Quadrupole Power Supply (QPS) from Extrel offers high accuracy, high stability control and power for Extrel’s Octupoles and Hexapole Ion Guides, Quadrupole Mass Filters, and Collision Cells.

They are provided in RF/DC and RF only versions. The QPS system functions on a fixed RF frequency; each frequency has its own features with each device.

The Extrel QPS is twice as fast as its predecessor, the 150-QC, enabling up to 4000 amu/sec. It has extra speed boost, and has been optimized to be at least twice as stable during normal operation. It has also been enhanced to provide improved high-resolution analysis, and better high mass transmission and detection.

A combination of RF operating frequency and quadrupole rod size allows the determination of mass range, abundance sensitivity, sensitivity, resolution and transmission. Increasing the quadruple rod size, increases ion transmission.

Reducing either the RF operating frequency or the quadrupole rod size, will increase the mass range.

The system’s RF frequency can be altered using various Quadrupole power supplies. This allows a system to be altered for enhanced mass range or improved performance as the requirements change.

The QPS needs four DC input voltages, in addition to the AC voltage, one +/- 10 V for Mass command and three +/- 5 V for resolution (Delta M and Delta R), and pole bias. Mass command needs one 0-10 V input. These voltages can be supplied from an Extrel MAX-CS control system or by the user. In addition, the QPS provides a bipolar pole bias voltage up to 200 V.
