Ultrasonic Metal Welding Innovations Since 1960
Sonobond Ultrasonics, a leading manufacturer of ultrasonic machinery for welding non-ferrous metals and other materials, holds over 150 patents, including the first for ultrasonic metal welding (1960). All Sonobond metal welders are made in the U.S.A. and only Sonobond units can weld tinned or oxidized wires or sheet metal, creating solid-state metallurgical bonds with high conductivity, in just one pulse and without pre-cleaning.
Ultrasonics involves the creation and channeling of high frequency vibratory waves to quickly weld materials without melting. It is energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly, and uses no consumables.
With Sonobond’s patented Wedge-Reed System of high vibratory force and low amplitude coupling, shear mode vibration, parallel to the welding surface, is utilized while the line of force is directly over the parts to be welded. This creates fast, precise and dependable welds without the bending stress or machine stalling that can occur with the typical lateral drive systems used by others.
Our machines have microprocessor controllers that store and recall up to 250 weld protocols, and can control welds by height, energy, or time. We use tool steel, Taper Lock Tips that last up to 100,000 welds and can be easily changed without replacing the entire integral horn-tip combination and without needing any recalibration.
Sonobond equipment is available in stand-alone and modular form, and can be readily integrated into existing production lines and processes. Additionally, we can customize tooling, horns, and nests to accommodate specific application requirements.
Sonobond offers a free Ultrasonic Welding Viability Test using a company’s own sample materials to determine whether ultrasonics is a viable process for them and which one of our machines is the right solution for their particular application. Worldwide field service is available and technical support is provided before, during and after installation. Most spare parts can be shipped within 24 hours.
