SMCC Conjugation Kit for Iron Oxide (II,III) Nanoparticles

Iron oxide nanoparticles are magnetic single crystals and can be used as magnetic resonance imaging contrast reagents for in-vivo imaging, drug delivery vehicles, hyperthermia generators for therapy, adjuvants for vaccines, and magnetic sensing probes for in-vitro diagnostics.

These amine-terminated iron oxide nanocrystals of various diameters (10 nm-30 nm) are now available in an easy-to-use kit format to enable researchers to conjugate proteins/ligands of their choice to these iron oxide nanoparticles.

Using the kit, iron oxide nanoparticles and ligands comprising thiols with low non-specific binding can be selectively conjugated. With 1 mg of iron oxide nanoparticles per reaction, it has enough components and reagents to carry out five conjugation reactions.

The activation of iron oxide nanoparticles involves the use of SMCC (succinimidyl 4-(N-maleimidomethyl) cyclohexane-1-carboxylate), followed by the conjugation to thiol groups found on target proteins or ligands, including bovine serum albumin, streptavidin, and immunoglobulin.
