Australian company PolyNovo Biomaterials Pty Ltd develops a range of biocompatible and biodegradable polymers for use in medical devices, transdermal drug delivery and bone repair procedures.

Formed in July 2004, PolyNovo is an operating division of the listed company Xceed Biotechnology, and has commercialised 5 years of research at the CSIRO.

The company’s NovoSorb product is used as a bone cement and substitute in peroidontal reconstruction and adhesion; as a drug delivery coating; and as a general medical adhesive and sealant. NovoSorb degrades into non-toxic products, and as its curing process does not generate heat it avoids damaging surrounding tissue. The product will be ready for animal trials in 2005, and PolyNovo is seeking partnership and co-development arrangements with medical device companies.
