Philtec's non-contact sensors provide linear position measurements at distances from 0 to 50 mm away (2 inches). They are intrinsically safe, very compact, and highly accurate allowing measurements inside of mechanisms, submerged in fluids, in hostile environments and with targets that are impossible to measure with other sensing technologies. We are eager to customize to your specifications.
Two types of fiberoptics are available: Reflectance Dependent (D) and Reflectance Compensated (RC).
D models are generally used for measurements to objects moving along the axis of the sensor. RC models are good for single axis measurements as well as for measurements to objects moving past the sensor. Either type can be provided with an analog or a digital output.
Analog Sensors are fast responding units for dynamic applications: bandwidths exceeding 1 megahertz are possible. Digital Systems (DMS) are the best choice for absolute distance measurements, multiplexing and for process control applications. They have a linearized RC232 output with a 5 KHz maximum sampling rate. Multiple calibrations can be stored on-board. D and RC models available. Philtec control software included.
Principle of Operation....These sensors are reflective devices using bundled glass fibers to transmit light to and receive reflected light from target surfaces. The intensity of the reflected light is proportional to the distance between the sensor tip and the target object.
