The high-pressure Diamond Compression Cell offered by Specac has been specifically developed for in-compartment FTIR microscope analysis and FTIR spectroscopic transmission analysis.
This involves compressing and flattening samples to an even thickness between two diamond windows until the sample is sufficiently thin to allow the penetration of beam from the microscope or the FTIR instrument.
A cell like this is specifically useful for studying hard samples, such as rigid polymers, rubbers, and minerals. Only minimal sample preparation is needed, implying that samples can be directly subjected to FTIR spectroscopic analysis.
Specac’s Diamond Compression Cell includes a pair of stainless steel plates into which two diamond windows are attached using a durable and high-strength diamond-to-metal bond technology. Thanks to the strength of this diamond mount, the thickness of the diamond window (0.5 mm) is considerably reduced, which helps in achieving maximum infrared optical throughput for this kind of micro-transmission cell.
During samples analysis in an FTIR spectrometer, Specac’s Microfocus Beam Condenser (or KRS-5 lenses or ZnSe lenses) may be needed to achieve the best quality spectra.
