PAT and BAT drives are magnetically-coupled linear actuators available from UHV DESIGN LTD. They have been specifically developed to support advanced beamline diagnostic devices that need speed, while avoiding the use of bellows wherever possible.
The magnetically-coupled drives from UHV DESIGN LTD can be motorized (BAT drive) or actuated pneumatically (PAT drive). They are capable of speeds up to 1000 mm/second.
UHV DESIGN LTD has been working in association with accelerator facilities based in Europe and the Americas, and the design can be tailored to match particular wiring and encoder standards, streamlining the commissioning and installation process.
Key Features
Capable of up to 100 mm linear travel
Enables magnetically-coupled, bellows-free operation
Excellent reliability
Linear breakaway thrust: 90 N
Linear speed: 1000 mm/second (500 mm/second is advised)
BAT Drive | Motorized ball screw linear drive with 38 mm clear bore and capable of speeds up to 1,000 mm/s.
Bellows-Free Design
Reducing the number of bellows used on critical beamline applications is a key focus for many Light Sources and Colliders globablly. In response UHV DESIGN LTD developed a magnetically-coupled linear actuator capable of achieving the high speeds required for the next generation beamline diagnostics.
Besides the technical performance, UHV DESIGN LTD works closely with its customers to match any motor, encoder, wiring, and switch preference on the actuators, so that the installation and commissioning process becomes as simple as possible.
Customization options are given below:
Gearbox or motor
Limit and home switches
Linear potentiometer or encoder
Choice of connectors and wiring standards
Pneumatically Actuated Option
The magnetically-coupled Pneumatically Actuated Linear Translator (PAT) drive has been developed together with CERN to particularly avoid the use of unwanted bellows in beamline diagnostic applications.
Bellows are available in strokes up to 100 mm and actuated with a side-mounted rodless pneumatic cylinder. The design integrates two constant force springs to ensure fail-safe operation in case of loss of air supply or electrical power.
Employing UHV Design’s magnetic coupling technology, the PAT drive has a linear breakaway thrust of 90 N. Linear speeds of up to 500 mm/second is suggested.
