Sony Starvis CMOS sensors with rolling shutters enable high-sensitivity imaging capability. Sony’s backlit sensor technology achieves excellent color reproduction, dynamic range, and low noise.

A greater amount of light can reach the sensor by applying the photosensitive surface on top of the metal wiring rather than the standard layout where light is blocked around the photodiode. This system improves camera sensitivity by providing a higher light level when imaging.
