JCB Launches Durable and Highly Efficient 457 ZX Wheel Loader

JCB has launched a new, advanced equipment called 457 ZX wheel loader which is productive, efficient and long-lasting. The front end loader is easy to maintain and provides safety, comfort and serviceability, making it an ideal all-round equipment.

All JCB front end loaders are integrated with advanced technology to improve efficiency. The 457 ZX has an intelligent clutch cut-off feature that ensures optimum hydraulic performance and also limits the speed of the vehicle when loading. In addition, a variable speed fan, load-sensing hydraulics and automatic idle shutdown are also integrated in the wheel loader.

The 8.9 litre 6 cylinder Cummins QSL engine in the JCB 457 ZX meets the Stage 3b/Tier 4 specifications. This engine aids the 457 ZX to generate 18% more torque (1085 Nm) 16% more power (186 kW), in contrast to the earlier 456 model.

The 186 kW Cummins engine in the JCB 457 ZX is attached to a 4-speed ZF fully automatic powershift transmission to enable stepless gear changes and smooth operation. In addition, the 457 ZX includes three axle options, which consist of automatic locking differentials, limited slip differentials, and open differentials. The ZX loader geometry produces 172 kN breakout force. In addition to massive breakout forces, the Z-linkage loader design ensures that the front loader can perform high dump angles for better productivity. Moreover, a revised rear chassis design facilitates 3.3% extra lift capacity when compared to the 456 ZX model.

The JCB 457 ZX offers efficient and accurate loader control. The variable displacement pumps in the 457 ZX feed a load-sensing valve block, and only consume power on demand. These pumps also offer 326 l/min hydraulic flow for optimum multi-functioning performance. Additionally, the smoothride suspension system helps in material retention and reduces shock loadings.

The 457 ZX features intelligent electronic management to control progressive clutch cut-off for productive and efficient loader control. This aspect can automatically redirect power to the loader hydraulics for maximum truck and hopper loading duties.

Additionally, the 457 ZX features unloaded spool valves, which means the loader arms reduce under gravitational force but not hydraulic force. For improved fuel economy and heat and drag reduction, the 457 ZX brakes rotate at the similar speed as the wheels. The wheel loader also employs a series of advanced operator aids to boost efficiency.

Operators can select from a range of loader control options such as joystick, multi lever and proportional auxiliary controls. A switch is provided to disable aids, like arm height limitation, return-to-dig and float functions. A laminated front screen, a sloping rear bonnet design and heated exterior mirrors provide excellent visibility.

For operator comfort and safety, the 457 ZX includes various features such as full-colour LCD dash display with analogue dials, spacious 3m³ cabin, automatic temperature control option and integrated ROPS/FOPS protection. The cab is isolator mounted to reduce noise and pressurized to block out dust. The 457 ZX wheel loader has gullwing doors to provide access to the cooling pack and engine bay areas.

Moreover, the 457 ZX has been subjected to a comprehensive development programme to assure its durability. The equipment was tested across 1.2 million cycles and was also field tested in climates varying between -20°C and 50°C. In addition, articulation pins and bushes and large diameter loader have secondary seals to block dirt. in order to reduce service brake wear and subsequent fuel consumption, electronic management system controls tractive effort through the transmission.
