Inframatic 8800: Portable NIR Grain Analyzer

The Inframatic 8800 from PerkinElmer is the next-generation portable NIR grain analyzer for the analysis of moisture, proteinand oil in oilseeds and grains. The instrument has been engineered with portability in mind to offer users the freedom to quantify grains in-field, at grain processing locationsand at grain storage sites.

The analyzer is provided with GPS, thus facilitating point-specific sampling to create protein maps on the go. This helps users make informed harvesting and binning decisions. Thanks to its uncompromising quality and build standards, the instrument offers highly accurate data which users can rely on.

The Inframatic 8800 has been designed using diode array technology and solid-state components, which means there are no moving optical components. With no moving parts, it is robust, rugged,and enables users to align and match instruments at the factory. This, in turn, implies that the instruments are repeatable, accurateand reproducible.

The Inframatic 8800 has been standardized to the Inframatic 9500 — PerkinElmer’s elevator/lab instrument that is well established in the market and approved for payment instrument in various countries in the United States, Australia, Germany, etc.

Features and Benefits

This robust meter has been developed specifically for farm and grain elevator conditions and is best suited to test grains for oil, protein, and moisture. The tester is safeguarded from insects, lightand vermin by an automated shutter, thus ensuring reliable and low-maintenance operation for several years.

Moisture for Falling Number test — Testing of moisture in ground wheat with the optional Moisture Module enables grain traders to use accurate moisture values while conducting Falling Number analysis. This enhances the accuracy of Falling Number results.

Portable — The Inframatic 8800 is compact and sufficiently lightweight to carry by hand and is powered by 12 V to 24 V, or battery (for up to 2 hours). Thus, it can be carried by users where it is needed the most: in the cab of the header orin the pickup truck. The standard carrying bag safeguards the IM 8800 and helps transport the instrument to fields, inspection sites, etc. Moreover, it is useful for long-term, safe storage of the instrument after harvest.

Measure in the field — The IM 8800 offers better portability and fit-for-purpose. It can be placed in the cab of the pick-up or harvester of users.

It is sufficiently compact to carry around the field to spot-test, thereby enabling users to identify the ideal harvest time.

It has been demonstrated that the variability of protein in wheat in a single row is up to 6%. The maps enable users to capture that value. Thus, they can increase profitability by gaining better control of drying, determining the highest quality grainand selling it for a premium.

GPS — The Inframatic 8800 can be fitted with a GPS to help create protein maps of users’ fields. Thus, they can make quick harvesting and binning decisions to manage the grain quality.

Operation and Handling

The Inframatic 8800 is highly user-friendly. An intuitive user interface helps operate the instrument through a touchscreen. Samples can be analyzed in just a few, easy steps:

The type of grain to analyze should be selected.

The sample should be poured into the funnel and “Start” should be pressed

Once analysis is over, results are shown on the screen, and the sample box can be emptied.
