Halcyon Optical Services

Halcyon Optical Services was established in January 2000 to provide technical expertise to the optical fibre industry. Our chief consultant, Andrew G Hallam, BSc, MIEEE, MInstP, has been actively involved in optical fibre and integrated optics technology for 25 years and has extensive experience in fibre measurements, optical design, calibration and instrument design.

As former head of the Measurement Standards Department at GN Nettest (formerly PK Technology) he was responsible for setting up and running a calibration laboratory to ISO 9000 standards. His work included the development of a suite of calibration standards, working closely with NPL in the UK and NIST in the US, to achieve traceability for a wide range of fibre test equipment.

Andrew has been an active member of the TIA and IEC standards organisations for many years and has authored several international fibre standards. These include optical fibre geometry measurement, coating characterisation, fibre length measurement and, more recently, mode power distribution measurement.
