To obtain the clearest and deepest spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) images, some very specific considerations in optical design are required. Due to the interferometric nature of OCT, such an optical design must cover awide bandwidth with the highest signal to noise at all operating wavelengths or risk degradation of of the resulting image.
