Graphene Nanoplatelets From Merck and Their Applications

Graphene nanoplatelets are "pure carbon" and highly lipophilic, with a tendency to aggregate with poor interactions within the surrounding matrix. This characteristic makes their dispersion challenging in processes and supports such as epoxy resin, thermoplastics, or solvents like water.

Chemical modifications on the surface of graphite nanoplatelets, however, have unlocked new properties, facilitating improved interaction with the targeted matrix. Without these chemical modifications, the dispersion step becomes a challenge and often fails to yield the expected benefits.
