Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR) spectroscopy is a well-established analytical method. FT-IR spectrometers are used in numerous laboratories. In many cases, these are coupled to thermal analysis systems to obtain a better understanding of the decomposition or evaporation methods under examination.
The FT-IR series from NETZSCH can be easily coupled with vacuum-tight thermal balances and simultaneous thermal analysis instruments TG/STA 449 F3 Jupiter®, TG 209 F1 Libra®, and TG/STA 449 F1 Jupiter® as well as dynamic differential calorimeters DSC 404 F1 Pegasus® and DSC 204 F1 Phoenix®.
In the polymer, chemical, and pharmaceutical sectors, there is a great deal of interest to understand the evolving gases during a process, a decomposition, a curing/cross-linking, or any other reaction.
The transfer line and the connection adaptors to the furnaces are heatable up to 230°C to prevent a condensation of the decomposition products as far as possible. Gas phases libraries are provided for spectra interpretation.
There are three modes of connecting FT-IR to a thermal analyzer:
Direct PERSEUS® coupling without the use of a transfer line
Coupling to an internal gas cell through a transfer line using the FT-IR sample chamber
Coupling to an external gas cell through a transfer line for highest FT-IR system flexibility.
