Forensic Light Source: CrimeScope CS-16-500W

The CrimeScope CS-16-500 forensic light source from HORIBA Scientific was specifically designed for those departments that need Xenon 500W lamps instead of Metal Halide Lamps, due to the additional Infrared output for bogus documents.

The CS-16-500 is so compact that it can be easily taken to the crime scene,yet it is versatile enough to be accommodated easily in the laboratory. It covers the UV-VIS range and comes with an optional IR. The lifespan of the lamp is the same as that of the Metal Halide 400 W lamps, that is, 1500 hours.

Note: Spare 500 W Xenon lamps cost two to three times more than 400 Metal Halide, whereas the Blue-Green intensity output employed in many forensic applications is the same.

Features

The CS-16-500 has been developed for laboratories to cover all kinds of applications of a forensic light source; yet, it is robust and flexible enough to be taken to crime scenes. It offers output in the UV and VIS but comes with the optional IR. It can be tuned continuously, enabling an entire spectral coverage.

Ease of Use

The CS-16-500W-15F features an automated filter wheel, while an LED readout is provided on the front side of the system. A remote control has been incorporated into the working end of the liquid light guide to manage the selection of wavelengths.

The integrated remote prevents the need for separate wires, connections, or control to set up. A foot switch (optional) is also provided for 'hands free'operation.

Operate Easily with One Hand

Using only one hand, users can direct the light and also choose the wavelength, while their other hand is free to collect the evidence. Such a design—placing the wavelength selector toward the end of the light guide—is a hallmark of the light sources from SPEX Forensics.

Infrared Capability

Infrared output is an available option and is perfect for fake documents, in terms of ink-ink differentiation. A light guide with four filters is added to the instrument and this can be plugged into the port provided on the side of the instrument. Such a capability adds four more infrared wavelengths—LP630, LP715, LP780and LP830.
