FluoroMax Plus: Steady State and Lifetime Benchtop Spectrofluorometer

The FluoroMax® Plus characterizes HORIBA’s best-in-industry fluorometer performance in a cheap, convenient, and user-friendly benchtop model. The FluoroMax family was the first one to bring the sensitivity of a modular fluorometer to a tabletop fluorescence instrument in the 1990s with its special all-reflective optics and photon counting.

It is a small spectrofluorometer, yet it provides the ultimate sensitivity in fluorescence investigations and features that are not discovered in most table-top fluorescence detection systems.

The FluoroMax Plus isthe latest generation of the original and high-performance tabletop fluorometer, providing extended performance with detection of emission spectra out to 1700 nm and (TCSPC) Time Correlated Single Photon Counting lifetime measurements that are as short as 25 ps.

FluoroMax Plus spectrofluorometers are the mostsensitive, adaptable, and trustworthy benchtop spectrofluorometers.

Hardware

The Source

The xenon source that offers prime UV performance is concentrated on the entrance slit of the excitation monochromator that comes with an elliptical mirror. Besides guaranteeing effective collection, the reflective surface retains all wavelengths stressed on the slit.

As an option, an extra, software-selectable xenon flash lamp can be fitted to allow phosphorescence studies.

The Slits

The slits are bilaterally, continuously adjustable from the computer in units of bandpass or millimeters. This preserves maximum resolution and instant reproducibility.

The Excitation Monochromator

The excitation monochromator isan aspheric design that guarantees that the image of the light diffracted by the grating fits through the slit.

The gratings themselves are plane, blazed gratings that prevent the two major disadvantages of the more common concave holographic gratings: poor polarization performance and inadequate imaging during scans that throw away light.

The unique wavelength drive scans the grating at speeds as high as 80 nm/second. The grating grooves are blazed to provide maximum light in the UV and visible regions.

The Reference Detector

A photodiode reference detector tracks the intensity as a function of wavelength and time prior to the excitation light reaching the sample. The photodiode detector consists of an extensive wavelength response compared to the older and conventional rhodamine-B quantum counter, and no maintenance is required.

The Sample Chamber

A large sample chamber has been offered to enable the use of a long list of accessories for unique samples and encourage the user to make use of a range of sample schemes.

The Emission Monochromator

The excitation monochromator's outstanding features are also incorporated into the emission monochromator. Gratings are blazed to offer maximum throughput in the visible region.

The Emission Detector

Emission detector electronics employ photon counting for the ultimate in low-light-level detection.Photon-counting focuses on signals that develop from fluorescence emission, thereby neglecting smaller signals sourcing in the detector tube (PMT).

The more general technique of analog detection (utilized by lower-performance fluorometers) just adds noise and signal collectively, thereby helping to mask weak emissions.

The emission detector housing also consists of an integral high-voltage supply, which is factory-set to offer the signal-to-noise ratio.

Computer Control

The entire control of the FluoroMax originates in the user's PC with HORIBA’sFluorEssence software and is transmitted through aUSB link. Once started-up, the system automatically calibrates and presents itself for new experiments, or stored routines instantly called from memory.

Accessories

A wide variety of accessories are applications-oriented, most of which are exchangeable with the FluoroMax system.
