Environmental Chamber from Tinius Olsen
The Tinius Olsen Environmental Chamber is suitable for most twin screw materials testing machines, and provides a means for conducting physical tests within a temperature range of -70-300 °C (-95-570 °F). An internal radial fan supplies efficient air circulation that reduces temperature gradients throughout the chamber.
A digital controller guarantees accurate temperature control. Sub-zero temperature testing as an option is available via a self-pressurizing liquid nitrogen Dewar.
The chamber door is equipped with a triple glazed window for viewing the test area and also scanning the sample for strain measurements when employing the Tinius Olsen 500L laser extensometer. When liquid nitrogen is used, a demisting facility is fixed.
The chamber is supported on a frame positioned between the columns of the testing machine. When the chamber is not in operation, the chamber can be rolled back and placed away from the operating area.

The Tinius Olsen high-temperature furnace offers a means to perform tensile tests within a temperature range of ambient to 1200 °C (2200 °F). The furnace is supported on a frame post positioned behind the columns of the testing machine. When the furnace is not in operation, it can be pushed to the side to clear the operating area. The furnace has a superior rigid stainless steel outer case with a polished finish. Rigidity is most crucial to prevent the insulation cracking in service and to allow high-temperature extensometers to be mounted straight on the furnace case. Furthermore, the furnace features water-cooled mounting adaptors so that no heat is shifted to the loadcell, which could unfavorably affect the process and calibration of the loadcell measurements.
The control system is based on a Eurotherm 2408 digital temperature controller, providing a single type ‘K’ thermocouple, four-segment programmability, and all connecting cables. This is all accommodated in a standard 19” desktop console.
The three-zone furnace is provided with the extra heating tiles and control capability to allow much better thermal uniformity across the specimen gage length.
