Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer - 3D-DMA

Psylotech's approach to dynamic mechanical analysis is a paradigm shift for understanding the complex mechanical properties of structural polymers. Careful attention to the nuances of testing viscoelastic materials yields an accurate, complete, self-consistent data set purposefully suited for computer simulation. The new approach enables finite element analysis (FEA) of history, rate, pressure, and temperature effects. The approach means shorter product development life cycles with increased product quality.

Psylotech's 3D Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (3D-DMA) is the first instrument of its kind to offer:

Local Strain Measurement on axially loaded specimens circumvents the substantial experimental errors associated with traditional beam bending specimens.

Dynamic Poisson's Ratio (n*) and Young's Modulus (E*) are concurrently measured, enabling determination of a viscoelastic material's full 3D mechanical property matrix.

Time domain moduli in an FEA compatible format. Psylotech provides subroutines to leverage the data in commercial finite element codes.

The 3D-DMA employs experimental techniques grounded in metals testing experience. Extensometers measure strain locally on axially loaded specimens, rather than relying on contact point displacement on flexing beams. The system concurrently measures dynamic Young's Modulus, E*, and viscoelastic Poisson's ratio, ν*. Post processor software infers the material's full 3-D mechanical property matrix, providing time-domain Shear modulus, G(t), and Bulk modulus, κ(t), well suited for finite element simulation.
