As a result of its contribution to global sustainability efforts and the circular economy, carbon capture, use, and storage is quickly emerging as one of the world's most significant and fascinating new sectors. Having the tools to accurately and efficiently assess the performance properties of various materials for CO2 capture is a fundamental cornerstone for research in this up-and-coming field.
The DVS Carbon, the latest addition to the DVS family, isa world-first gravimetric sorption analyzer for advanced carbon capture applications. With unique features specially designed for this instrument, the DVS Carbon enables researchers to precisely measure CO2 uptake in materials under real-world conditions, controlling temperature and humidity at a broad range of CO2 concentrations.

The World’s Most Advanced Gravimetric CO2 Capture Analyzer
In the majority of gas-phase carbon capture applications, CO2 often competes with other chemical species at adsorbent sites, particularly water vapor. The DVS Carbon, which controls temperature and humidity at a wide range of CO2 concentrations (from 50 ppm to 100% vol), makes it possible to evaluate CO2 absorption in real-life settings.
The DVS Carbon’s main features include:
Independent Multicomponent Control
Cycling or complex sorption programs are easily created
The concentration of CO2 and H2O can be individually controlled
Concentration and temperature changed in precise steps or ramps
Isotherms of CO2 and H2O
CO2 and water isotherms in real-world conditions
Kinetics for each step are available by default
Multiple Concentration and Temperature Ranges for All CCUS Applications
High CO2 levels (Fig 2) or low ppm CO2 range (Fig 4) can be controlled, suitable for DAC,
PCC or other CCUS conditions
Lower CO2 concentrations (e.g., 400 ppm) are generated using a pre-diluted gas cylinder
ln-situ Activation and Regeneration
Under inert or process gas, a sample can be locally heated to a maximum of 300 °C
Drying, activation, or regeneration kinetics determined directly
Optional High Throughput Configuration
Accommodates five simultaneous samples with a combination of low or high mass balances

The unparalleled capabilities of the DVS Carbon are made possible through several groundbreaking innovations in its design and construction, which serve as the foundation of its impressive performance.
New and Improved Speed-of-Sound Sensor
The speed of sound, an inherent feature of gas and vapor, is used by the SMS Speed-of-Sound sensor to precisely monitor and regulate generation. The new SOS Sensor, which has been specifically created for the DVS Carbon, produces CO2 at a wide range of concentrations by mixing with a carrier gas, allowing concentrations up to 100% vol with improved resolution below 50%.
Low Concentration Analysis With NDIR Sensor
A Non-Dispersive Infrared sensor comes as standard with the DVS Carbon Advanced, allowing for materials characterization at low concentrations with a high degree of accuracy, ranging from 50 ppm to 1000 ppm.
Unparalleled Humidity and Temperature Control
The DVS instrument range is renowned for its precision in temperature control and humidity. Employing a precisely tuned temperature enclosure, heated water reservoirs, and calibrated sensors, accurate high relative humidity is possible across the enclosure's operating temperature range.
The SMS Ultrabalance
The SMS Ultrabalance is a custom-built symmetric microbalance that monitors microgram changes in sample weight with a resolution of 0.01 μg. It is the epitome of quality and precision in the DVS product line. Temperature management results in a root mean square noise of ≤ 0.3 μg, ensuring long-term stability.
