TA Instruments’ DIL805A/D is a unique dilatometer designed for determining the deformation parameter and for creating continuous cooling, TTT-, and DTTT- diagrams.
The DIL805A (quenching) has high heating rates of up to 4000°C/s and cooling rates of 2500°C/s. The DIL805D (deformation) is characterized by deformation rates of 0.01 to 125mm/s. Text experiments are versatile and can be assembled to imitate a procedure of any length or complexity. Numerous steps can be configured and sequenced with minimal pause of 60ms between following steps.
The DIL805A is used for observation of dimensional changes under severe conditions of controlled heating and cooling.
A hollow or a solid sample is inductively heated to a temperature plateau and then continuously cooled with exponential or linear rates. Phase transformation occurs in the isothermal plateau or continuous cooling process and is revealed by the measured change of length.
The cooling curves signify a continuous or an isothermal time-temperature- transformation (TTT) diagram. The beginning and end of the transformation specify alloy phase boundaries e.g. ferrite, pearlite, graphite, bainite, martensite, carbide, or other eutectoid phase batches.
Apart from using the principle of the DIL805A, the DIL805D also includes controlled deformation. At a user-defined temperature, a sample is compressed with many deformation programs. With the quenching dilatometer, a cooling process can be carried out to generate a time-temperature-transformation diagram after deformation.
