Diamond Turning with Nanoform® Xtc

If you can diamond turn tungsten carbide using the Nanoform-XTC from Precitech, why would you grind it? Diamond turning provides several benefits that conventional grinding does not.

Diamond turning has feed rates of up to 6 mm per minute, which means that the finishing of standard components can take less than one minute. In addition to this diamond, turning allows established techniques to be followed for the rapid manufacturing of complex diffractive (kinoform) molds.

The Nanoform Xtc can produce surfaces with under 5 nm Sa and 150 nm PV, in addition, the technique also allows parts that require little post-polishing to be produced in minutes rather than the hours taken using traditional grinding methods.

Diamond turning has also been shown to be high-speed HS 75 Spindlee effective on infrared materials such as Silicon (Si), Germanium (Ge), Calcium Fluoride (CaF2), Zinc Sulfide (ZnSe) and Zinc Selenide (ZnSe).

Diamond turning on sapphire, glass (BK7) and Silicon Carbide (SiC) is currently in progress.
