热熔钻使用相对较高的轴向压力和转速与材料接触。产生的热量使材料变得柔软且具有延展性,足以成型和穿孔。当热熔钻推入材料时,一些移位的材料在工件的上表面周围形成轴环。其余材料在工件的下表面形成衬套。这一切都发生在几秒钟之内。由此产生的轴环和衬套的厚度最多可达原始材料厚度的 3 倍。衬套的直径由热熔钻工具的圆柱形部分精确确定。
