CSS450: Optical Rheology Systems

The Linkam Optical Shearing System (CSS450) enables direct observation of the structural dynamics of complex fluids through a standard optical microscope when they are under accurately controlled temperature and several shear modes.

The optical shearing cell can be used to analyze the microstructure evolution of complex fluids elaborately for various physical processes like the coarsening of binary fluids during their phase separations, defect dynamics of liquid crystals, the aggregation of red blood cells and their deformation in flowsand flow-induced mixing and demixing of polymer blends.

Users can then be in an ideal position to compare microstructural dynamics with rheological data for a better understanding of the rheology of complex fluids.
