Cryogenic Platform for Telescopes

The ultra-low temperature (ULT) group from Janis Research has designed an innovative pulse-tube cooled cryogenic platform for the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT). The ACT was developed in collaboration with ACTPol – a multi-agency scientific collaboration team.

The ACT is a 6 m-Gregorian telescope installed on Cerro Toco in Northern Chile. At an altitude of 5,200 m (17,000 ft), the telescope has been specifically designed to study the structure and origin of the early universe by directly viewing the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation at varied polarizations, with arcminute resolution.
