All industrial COSA XENTAUR™ dew point meters from Process Insights utilize Hyper Thin-Film (HTF™) Al2O3 Moisture Sensing Technology with high-capacitance sensors. This Hyper-Thin-Film Technology is built on significant advancements made by Process Insights in thin-film technology and metal oxide sciences, offering measurements with sensitivity several orders of magnitude higher than those made with other technologies.
Operating PrincipleHTF Technology, like all aluminum oxide sensors, operates on the same basic principle: the capacitance measured between the sensor's aluminum core and a gold film deposited on the oxide layer varies according to the water vapor content in the pores of the oxide layer. Three key structural improvements in the oxide layer enhance the sensitivity and stability of HTF sensors: a much thinner oxide layer, a better-defined barrier layer between the aluminum and the aluminum oxide, and a unique pore geometry that improves the entrapment of water molecules.
Hyper-Thin LayerWith HTF Technology, sensors can be produced with hyper-thin oxide layers without sacrificing insulation strength. The thinner oxide layer of HTF sensors leads to significantly higher capacitance changes, as capacitance is inversely proportional to the distance between the capacitor’s plates. The thinner layer also enables water molecules to move more quickly in and out of the pores, resulting in HTF aluminum oxide sensors having response times that are several times faster than those of conventional sensors.
