ELTRA's combustion analyzer, ELEMENTRAC CS-r, comeswith IR detection for the secure, accurateand reliable elemental analysis of carbon (C) and sulfur (S) in predominantly organic materials like waste, soils, wood, coal, cokeand oil.
The CS-r, consisting of up to four infrared cells, has been specifically developed for carbon and sulfur measurement over an extensive concentration range. It makes use of a horizontal resistance furnace made up of ceramic tubes. It works in a range of 600 °C to 1550 °C
The Cs-r elemental analyzer fulfills or surpasses the needs of all general ASTM, EN, DINor ISO standards for elemental analysis.
Quick and concurrent measurement of carbon and sulfur
Improved (low blank) sample port
Possibility of high weight sample
The extensive measuring range varies from 20 ppm to 100%
IR path made of solid gold for an expended lifetime
Operation and Analysis Process
The Cs-r elemental analyzer identifies the elements sulfur and carbon by combustion of the sample in an oxygen stream and consequent measurement of the combustion gases H2O, CO2and SO2 in selective infrared measuring cells. A high sample weight ranging up to 500 mg guarantees outstanding reproducibility of the elemental outcomes. This is also inclusive of the heterogeneous samples.
The oxygen flow’s high combustion temperatures and electronic monitoring enable full oxidation of the sample and help to prevent outcomes that are too low, even with difficult materials such as cement. Irrespective of the chosen configuration (carbon–sulfur–carbon and sulfur), the operation is similar in all analyzer versions.
Functional Principle
In the Cs-r elemental analyzer, the sample is burnt in an oxygen atmosphere at temperatures ranging up to 1550 °C. The furnace temperature can be chosen freely in steps of 1 °C. The combustion gases (H2O, CO2and SO2) comeout of the furnace and pass via the dust filter.
Once the water vapor has been absorbed chemically, the dried CO2 and SO2 gas is detected in the extra infrared cells. Based on the configuration, integrating up to four (for C, S analyzers) infrared cells with various sensitivities is possible.
