Appalachian Highwall Mining, LLC was formed in May 2001, to provide contract highwall mining services to coal mining companies located throughout the Appalachian Coalfields. Charles Marshall, Claude Allen, Terry Marshall and Shaun Allen comprise the ownership of the company and have owned and operated highwall miners for the past five years. Charles Marshall has over 36 years experience in all areas of surface mining.
Appalachian purchased a new Superior Highwall Miner fitted with a low seam profile head that facilitates the mining of seams ranging from 28 to 60 inches. This miner is capable of mining to a horizontal depth of 800 feet and cuts a 9.5 foot rectangular hole.
