Epsilon’s 3567 extensometers are used to measure elongation of splice, rebar coupler, and sleeve assemblies. It is also used for cyclic, tension, slip, and differential elongation tests.
This model extensometer can be used for ASTM A1034 testing to measure elongation and strain during tension testing of rebar splice assemblies consisting of coupling sleeves, rebar and rebar couplers and splices. The extensometer measures strain through yield and can be used for cyclic, tension, slip, and differential elongation tests.
The extensometer can be left on through failure and includes suspension points for fall protection. It is engineered to automatically release from the rebar splice assembly when the extensometer reaches full extension at 12.5 mm (0.5”), usually after specimen yield.
The extensometer is suspended by a tether after it is released from the specimen. The upper arm incorporates mechanical stops that protect the extensometer from over travel.
The Model 3567 is self-supporting and mounts to the rebar using attachment collars above and below the coupler. The collars simply clamp on without requiring any rebar surface preparation. Collars are available to work with all common rebar splice/coupling sizes, including 6 – 60 mm (#2 - #18J) diameter rebar.
The gauge length of the extensometer can be adjusted to any value from 95 – 675 mm (3.74” – 26.6”) with the standard model, and optionally up to 975 mm (38.4”).
This unit consists of two simultaneous, separate measurements that are averaged to measure axial elongation. A configuration that uses three separate measurements for enhanced test accuracy is optional.
The Model 3567 extensometer can also be used for tension testing of un-spliced rebar. It incorporates efficiency and durability features for labs that mainly test un-spliced rebar, and these features are specifically designed for that application.
These extensometers are strain gaged devices, which makes them compatible with any electronics designed for strain gaged transducers. They are often connected to a test machine controller. The company will equip the extensometer with compatible connectors that are wired to plug directly into the controller.
For systems that do not have the required electronics, Epsilon can provide a range of solutions for signal conditioning and connection to chart recorders, data acquisition systems, or other equipment.
Epsilon extensometers are compatible with almost every brand of test equipment and can be supplied with the right connector to plug in directly, or supplied with a separate amplifier and conditioner.
Operation of these and all of Epsilon’s extensometers are verified to applicable standards such as ISO 9513 or ASTM E83 using in-house calibration systems. These systems are calibrated with Epsilon’s laser interferometer system.
Epsilon has 20+ years history of service for the materials testing community and will be there to stand behind their products when the user’s critical application requires it.
Features
The key features of the Model 3567 extensometers are as follows:
Specifically designed to be left on through specimen failure - the extensometer automatically releases from the rebar splice assembly upon reaching the full scale of the extensometer
Replaces homemade clip gages and LVDTs with a reliable, repeatable solution
A single system can be used for all common rebar and splice / coupling sizes, including 6 - 60 mm (#2 - #18J) diameter rebar
Durable system includes these features:
A tether suspends the extensometer after automatic release and provides fall protection
The extensometer’s upper arm has integral stops to protect it from over travel
Averages two or three measurements for accurate and repeatable measurements
Exceeds ASTM A1034 requirements for extensometer accuracy, and meets ISO 9513 class 0,5 and ASTM class B-1 accuracy requirements
Full bridge, 350 ohm strain gaged design for compatibility with nearly any test system
Extension bars enable gauge lengths up to 975 mm (38.4”)
Replaceable components for ease of repair
High quality foam lined case are provided
